ABOUT THE GROUP

A native of New York, and coming from a close-knit Italian family, listening to popular standards was the norm for Johnny Panzarella growing up . Distinguishing himself from other young musicians, Panzarella leads the ensemble “Johnny P. and The Wiseguys” with velvety vocals and a dynamic trumpet sound.

The band features original tunes penned by Panzarella coupled with fresh and innovative musical arrangements of classics from the Great American Songbook that catapult the 1940’s to 1960’s sound into the new millennium. Rat-pack influenced style, along with an energetic fervor synonymous with Michael Buble’s, illustrates the dynamics of the group.

His original tunes are reminiscent of an age when swing dancing, big bands, and Vegas lounges were the norm. These originals are interwoven effortlessly with the standard repertoire on the album.  His debut CD’s title song “Feelin’ Alright!” blends seamlessly with old standards such as “Just One of Those Things” and “ The Lady is a Tramp.” In the same way, his original “Forever and A Day” creates a romantic mood similar to “The Very Thought of You.”

His great vocal talent, song writing skills, and superb trumpet playing echo the sounds and talents of Sinatra, Louis Prima, and Mel Torme.  Johnny Panzarella is poised to follow in the footsteps of the musical greats that inspired his musical career.
